Complete Denture Set-up

Complete denture setup being copies of setup demonstration for undergraduate dental students during their junior op-tech laboratory experiences. They had the opportunities of interacting with a number of dental lab materials and equipment for the fabrication of dental appliances for corrective, restorative and preventive purposes. This lab programme run for several weeks and student must be successful before they can be allowed to proceed to the clinic for further clinical experiences. The lab training is key to clinical training as every dentist must demonstrate excellent manual dexterity which must include handling of tools, equipment, and material manipulation which are necessary in clinical practice.

Technology savvy kid

Many years ago when a child is born the eyes are closed for several days before they are opened. Today the reverse is the case. This was our observation when this kid visited our dental with her mum. We were shocked that as soon as her mum's phone rang she put straight to her ears. We could not wonder how children of today are different from their parents when they were kids.
I called her technology savvy kid of this information age.

This is the laboratory examination that every dental student should pass before he is allowed to proceed to treat life patients in the dental surgery. It is an important aspect for dental students to master different manual skills in order to have sufficient manual dexterity for treatment of dental patients in the clinic.

Technology forced itself on dental students in Lagos

For about eleven years ago when I joined the services of the college of medicine of the University of Lagos Nigeria as an instructor a lot of changes have taken place in the use of technological devices among undergraduate students of this University. At that time no dental student even the medical students have a mobile phone not to talk about a laptop. Today emerging technological development has forced itself on the students but unfortunately technology is yet to be integrated into their curriculum. The students only use these devices for personal communication not for studies because the University has no teaching programme using technology for studies. This is indeed responsible for the bad rating of the University. From the look of things the University is not in a hurry to integrate technology into its curriculum. No field is left out in the influence and use of technology and there should be no excuse. My students are happy and ready to use technology in their studies but their University is not ready. PITY!!!!! The picture shows a dental student holding in display a laptop and a tablet after a lecture in front of the dental building.
